Ireland 2007

I have been going over to Ireland every July to watch some superb racing called the Skerries 100. The circuit is a 2.9 mile closed road, similar in width and surface to a UK C Class road. The guys (and ladies, although I am not aware of any that do) that race this circuit and others like it in the Irish Road Series are real heros. I think it is some of the best road racing you are likely to see. I am adding a short compilation video (not very good quality) and some still pictures.

I have to congratulate Martin Finnegan for brave and fast racing on his local circuit.

My annual tour abroad was not to be the sun drenched carefree tour I have been used to in recent years. This year the rain followed me over the channel and into France. I had hoped to visit a few of the sights between St Malo and Poitiers that I had done some 10 or 11 years ago.

I did get to the places and managed to make the best of the weather in terms of sight seeing but I was disappointed that the riding was mostly done in the rain. I have to say riding along the Loire on the way down in torrential rain was not offset by exactly the same on the way back even though my day in Futurascope was as sunny and warm as one migh ever hope for.

Ironic thing is when I show the photos people comment on how good the weather was and that at least it was sunny for the places I went to see !!! Missed the point methinks as a biking holiday is less about the destination and more about the journey, ah well you have to be a biker to understand that concept.

The trip went smoothly enough though and I suppose 4 out 7 days great weather is OK, it is just that I cannot forget missing what should have been a memorable experience along the Loire. After all I rodae the D road and so the river was only metres away for almost 50 kms each way. mmmm thoughts - I will just have to go back again (see there is a positive in everything!)
